Tenerife è stato il mio primo viaggio in assoluto con la reflex a seguito (ai tempi avevo una modestissima Nikon D3000 presa usata) , ce l'avevo da poco più di un mesetto e stavo ancora cercando di capire come funzionasse!!!
Le foto a corredo dell'articolo dimostrano chiaramente quanta strada avessi ancora da fare!!!
Tenerife è stata la seconda delle Isole Canarie che ho visitato, dopo essere stata a Lanzarote esattamente un anno prima; l'isola di Lanzarote (di cui vi parlerò più avanti dato che ci sono poi voluta tornare) aveva creato in me un certa aspettativa sulle Canarie come terre selvagge e meravigliose!!!
Dall'aereo il primo sguardo su Tenerife è stato mozzafiato, con le sue distese desertiche, le coste frastagliate e gli enormi crateri vulcanici.....decisamente diverso l'impatto una volta usciti dall'aereoporto: mi sono trovata di fronte un'isola decisamente commerciale, una "Rimini versione deluxe", con spiagge incantevoli ed acque da sogno, ma lettini ed ombrelloni a pagamento e cercando tra le attrazioni da visitare vedevo solo una gran scelta di parchi tematici: zoologici, acquatici, divertimenti...e la natura?? Diciamo che non rispecchiava esattamente l'idea che mi ero fatta! Pazienza, sicuramente ci saranno cose interessanti da fare e posti incantevoli da visitare!
Le mie ricerche in rete mi avevano dato come assolutamente da non perdere il celeberrimo Loro Parque, un enorme giardino zoologico famoso per i suoi pappagalli. Leggendo le recensioni la mia fantasia già vagava in un luogo che riproducesse le fattezze di una foresta tropicale, mentre splendidi e variopinti pennuti sfrecciavano liberi sulle nostre teste: diciamo che non è proprio così: il posto è indubbiamente scenico e d'effetto, con tanti bellissimi animali ed effettivamente qualche piccolo pappagallino libero di svolazzarti attorno, ma solo in una zona ben delimitata del parco. Luogo comunque affascinante merita sicuramente una visita, anche se 34€ a testa di ingresso mi sono sembrati decisamente eccessivi, lasciamo stare l'acquisto delle foto ricordo assieme ai pappagalli che ti scattano all'ingresso del parco!!! Oltretutto noi alloggiavamo nel sud dell'isola mentre il parco è a nord-ovest e per come sono strutturate le strade dell'isola abbiamo dovuto percorrere molti kilometri per raggiungerlo, preoccupati dal cielo plumbeo e grigio del nord (tra l'altro attraversando il nord si incontrano solo grandi città e tanto cemento...ci allontanavamo sempre di più dalla mia idea di Canarie!!!)
Mi è piaciuto decisamente di più il più piccolo parco faunistico Las Aguilas del Teide (o Tropical Park) situato nel sud dell'isola e scoperto l'ultimo giorno mentre cercavo disperatamente qualcosa da visitare nell'ultima giornata a nostra disposizione!
Raggiungerlo non è stato proprio semplice: una volta impostata la destinazione sul navigatore abbiamo iniziato una lunga salita per le montagne in mezzo al nulla, con solo qualche rapace che volteggiava sulle nostre teste a darci la speranza di essere sulla strada giusta! Una volta giunti in cima ci è apparso l'ingresso dall'aspetto un pò dismesso di un fantomatico "Tropical Park"...curiosiamo i prezzi e vediamo che entrare ci costerebbe sulle 20€ a testa.....che facciamo?? Ma sarà il parco giusto?? (certo, perchè le montagne canarie pullulano di parchi faunistici!!!) Varrà la pena spendere ancora soldi dopo essere stati al Loro Parque per vederne uno più sconosciuto e probabilmente più deludente??
Alla fine, dopo tutta la strada fatta e non avendo grandi alternative per passare la giornata abbiamo deciso di entrare e ci è piaciuto molto: anche qui spettacoli di rapaci e animali vari ed un ambiente per quanto possibile a Tenerife un pochino meno commerciale...se dovessi consigliare di visitare un parco solo lascerei perdere il rinomato Loro Parque e verrei qui!
Parchi tematici a parte, le guide di Tenerife consigliano assolutamente una visita al Teide, il meraviglioso vulcano che domina l'isola, con il suo parco naturale e i suoi splendidi colori! Via, si parte! Cartina alla mano ci avviamo verso il parco con la nostra auto a noleggio...il territorio del Teide è accessibile liberamente, ci guardiamo attorno ed è veramente spettacolare, un paesaggio quasi lunare....ed ecco il vulcano...la strada che porta ai suoi piedi è piena di macchine e pullman parcheggiati per kilometri...decidiamo di salire con l'auto e sbirciare prima di cercare un parcheggio e farci una scarpinata magari per nulla....ci fermiamo, scendo, seguo la folla..."funivia per la cima del vulcano, €26 a testa!!!!"...butto un occhio e vedo decine di persone ammassate come animali che si affollano nei vagoncini....mi volto e torno di corsa alla macchina! Bello il Teide, bello davvero eh, ma passiamo pure alla prossima attrazione!!!
Continuando a seguire i consigli su cosa fare sull'isola ci siamo imbattuti nell'ennesima attrazione per turisti: la gita in barca a vedere i delfini che nuotano liberi nel loro ambiente naturale. Siamo partiti aspettandoci la classica deludente trappola rubasoldi per turisti, invece tutto sommato è stata una bella gita, con merendina compresa e tuffo per fare snorkeling sotto lo spettacolo imponente di Los Gigantes, le ripide scogliere che si tuffano a picco nell'Oceano; inoltre vedere i delfini che nuotavano a pochi metri da noi è stata effettivamente un'emozione!
Spostandosi dalle spiagge principali che si trovano nelle grandi città, dove spendi 80€ per un materasso a 2 piazze in prima fila e hai tutto attrezzato, si trovano parecchie spiagge libere ugualmente belle, dove si può fare il bagno e prendere il sole in completa libertà ed economia!
Tipici di quest'isola sono le "pile" di sassi messi in equilibrio uno sull'altro che si trovano ovunque lungo la costa e gli spettacolari castelli di sabbia fatti da propri e veri artisti sul lungomare!
Ma la cosa che mi ha veramente affascinata sull'isola, come si può capire dalla photogallery, sono i tramonti: magici e dai colori mozzafiato!

Looking at the picture below you can clearly see how far I was to get something really good!!!
Tenerife was the secon Canary island I visited, after a wonderful trip to Lanzarote just one year before (I will tell you about it in another article, since I wanted to get back there with my Nikon) that made me think of The Canary as wild and astonisihg lands!!!
The first sight from the plane left me breathless, with all those desertic plains, the jagged shores and the huge vulcanic pits....definitely different was my impression on the island once I left the airport: I found an extremely self-selling place, an highly touristic island, with amazing beaches and enchanting sea waters, but with expensive sun chairs and parasols and looking for something to do during our holydays we could only find different kinds of parks: zoologic parks, water parks, amusement parks.....and what about nature??? Obviously it was very very far from my original idea!
Nevermind! I would surely find something interesting to do e beautiful places to see!
From my web hunting I found out that something really unmissable was the renowned Loro Parque, a huge zoologic garden famous for its beautiful parrots. Readng the reviews my mind started wandering through a place reproducing the wilderness of a tropical forest, with many lovely and coloured birds flying over our heads: well, tht's not really how it actually is: it surely is a striking and showy place, with a lot of beautiful animals and some little cute parrots freely flying around you, but only in a restricted area of tha park. Anyway it's worth a visit, although 34€ for a single ticket is quite too much in my opinion, just like the high price if you want to buy the souvenir photo with you and the parrots they snap at the entrance!!! Moreover, our apartment was in the south of the islan while the park was in the north-west, so we had to drive for many kilometers along the coast to get there, through the grey and rainy northern sky (driving through the north of the island all we saw were big towns and grey buildings...we were running more and more far from what I expected from the wonderful Canary Islands!!!)
I have to say that I liked much more the smaller faunistic park Las Aguilas del Teide (Teide's Eagles, also known as Tropical Park, as we found out!), in the south of the island, that came out the last day while we were searching someting to do during our last hours on the island!
It wasn't so easy to reach it: once we get the destination on the GPS we started climbing on an isolated mountain road, with just a couple of eagles flying over our heads making us believing we were on the right way!
When we got there we found the scruffy entrance of a certain "Tropical Park"...we take a look at the price-list and it was about 20€ for a ticket...what to do now?? Will it be the right place? (as if the island mountains were full of faunistic parks!!!) Will it be worth the price now we already saw the biggest and more famous Loro Parque??
Finally, after all the kilometers made to get there and with no tempting alternative for our last day in Tenerife we made up our minds and we got into the Park and I must say we really loved it: there were animals show like in the other Park, smaller but really nice and also a birds of prey show and it was a little less tawdry than the better known Loro Parque...if I should recommend just one faunistic park to see in Tenerife I would definitely choose this one!
Tenerife guide books also suggest to visit the Teide Natural Park, to see the wonderful vulcan that spires on the island, with its beautiful colours and landscape
Let's go! With a map in our hands we set up to the volcanic area with our rent car...the access to the park is free, we look around and the landscape is really astonishing, almost lunar...and there is the volcano...the road heading to its feed is full of parked cars and buses for kilometers...we decide to go and have a look before looking for a car park and have a long walk... we stop at the feet of the mountain, I got off the car and I followed the other tourists..."cableway to the top, 26€ for person"...I take a closer look and I see a dozen people huddling into the vagon like animals.... I turned away and I run back to the car! Beautiful place, of course, but let's go on to the next thing to see!!!
Keeping on with the guide books suggestions we came into the next touristic attraction: a boat trip to see dolphins freely swimming in their own habitat.
We started this adventure with an expectation for a disappointing usual trap for tourists, instead it has been a nice trip, with something to eat and drink on the boat an the chance to snorkel beneath the magnificent sight of Los Gigantes, the sharp cliffs that make a sheer plunge into the Ocean; also seeing dolphins diving into the water a few meters from us has been a real emotion!
Stepping away from the main beaches in the bigger cities, where a double-size mattress by the sea will cost you 80€ and you have all the facilities, you can also find many lovely free beaches where you can swim or suntun as you wish very cheaply! "Stone stacks" made of several pebbles put one on another in balance are tipical of the island and you can find them almost everywhere along the coast, as well as sand castles made by real artists along the promenade!
But what really amazed me on this island, as you can see from the photogallery, are the sunsets: magical and of breathtaking colours!
